10 Most Underrated Anime of Summer 2024 (2024)

Summer 2024 was a great season for anime, introducing many series that have since grown to become fan favorites. My Dear Friend Nokotan brought fans to laughter with its absurdity. Fairy Tail continued in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. The popular Western adult cartoon Rick and Morty even got its own anime adaptation.

However, hidden behind the glamour of all the hit anime captivating fans, several anime didn't get the attention they rightfully deserved. Despite having beautiful art, a captivating story, or simply a hilarious concept, these anime couldn't attract fans the way other series did. However, these underrated anime shouldn't be left to obscurity either. These are the ten most underrated anime of summer 2024.

The Japanese Stage Play Comes to Life in Anime Form

Delico's Nursery is a supernatural mystery inspired by a series of Japanese stage plays named Trump. In this anime, a series of serial murders rocks the vampiric world. While at first glance the killings appear unrelated, each crime scene features a card left behind, with the words "True of Vamp" written on it. The Vlad Agency summons Dali Delico of the Blood Pact Council to lead the murder task force, however Dali wants no part of it, preferring to focus on the children he's raising.

In order to get Delico's assistance, his old colleagues beg for his help. Eventually, Dali agrees, but on one condition. His old colleagues - Gerhard Fra, Henrique Lorca, and Dino Classico - have to help Delico care for his children during the investigation. Thus, the four noble vampires begin their search for the murderer calling themselves the True of Vamp.

Atri Only Has 45 Days to Accomplish Her Goal

Atri: My Dear Moments is a romance anime based on the visual novel developed by Frontwing and Makura, who are also known for creating The Fruits of Grisaia visual novel. The game was written by Asuta Konno and published by Aniplex.exe. The anime follows Natsuki Ikaruga, who recently lost his mother and one of his legs in an accident.

While going through his recently deceased grandmother's belongings to pay off a debt, Natsuki wakes up an android girl named Atri. Atri claims she only has 45 days to accomplish an important task. She leads him to discover the artificial floating islands his grandmother created. Along the way, Natsuki gains feelings for Atri, despite her being an android powered by AI. Anime fans have to watch the show to find out whether their romance weathers the storm ahead, or crumbles from Atri's lack of consciousness.

No Longer Allowed in Another World is a dark comedic fantasy isekai based on the manga series written by Hiroshi Noda and illustrated by Takahiro Wakamatsu. The series' name and protagonist are a reference to the Japanese author Osamu Dazai, a name Bungo Stray Dogs fans are likely familiar with.

In this anime, the depressed author Sensei tries to make a suicide pact with his girlfriend Sacchan, only to be struck by a truck. In typical isekai fashion, Sensei is transported to another world by the elven priestess Annette, although he's separated from Sacchan in the process. Sensei has no desire to be a hero and only wants to find peace in death. His plans are thwarted by the cat girl Tama. With nothing left to do, Sensei begins his journey to find Sacchan, accompanied by Tama and Annette, so that the two lovers can die in peace.

Perhaps the true harem is the love interest we make along the way. It's hard to say how this strange romance will blossom, between acting and reality, but at least it will be hilarious to watch.
