Friday on Friday- Campaign #6's End | Herald's Call (2024)

Happy 27th Friday of 2024, everyone!!

And, as always on Friday, the current Friday links: Friday on Friday, July 2024 and 2024 Friday on Friday: Play Friday EVERY Friday of 2024.

I wasn't ready for it to be Friday... I had set myself up yesterday to wrap up my 6th campaign of HEXplore It: The Forests of Adrimon – Fall of the Ancients. There were things that I still wanted to do, people that I still wanted to see, and a few story arcs that I wanted to wrap up before taking the fight to the Magi. Still, Friday must happen on Friday, and so, I paddled out to a Level 4 island before resuming my latest adventure in the Greenflame Forest Friday on Friday- Campaign #6's End | Herald's Call (2).

I had fun, but Robinson didn't even make it to the Pirates. Maybe he needed a Feyfire Potion or 2?

My final score was a very underwhelming -47 points: 23 points from Fighting Cards, -25 points from Aging Cards (gah!), 0 points from lifepoints, 0 points for defeating neither pirate, and -45 points from Unbeaten Hazards.

Still no Pirates...

And now, to the Greenflame! I am pleased to report that after 23 hours and 20 minutes of gameplay, I have once again managed to defeat Adrimon.

This time I had a lot more Allies on my side. And a Greater Fusing Ritual certainly helped my Stats. I met some new faces. And I learned that while Adrimon is defeated, the forest is anything but safe. The Fate Spool will need to be dealt with

the Fey Courts too.

I find myself intrigued by where the story goes from here. Does the Fate Spool perhaps connect to HEXplore It: The Mountains of Godai? I'm not sure, but I'm certainly interested. One story ends and another begins. As things should be. Kehri, Alastrine, Garr Dadge, Lori, Pentimeny, Quenne, Pinanchi Ru, Sunchaser, Tootsoom, Whiskers, and Wirt Brown Bottom joined my party of heroes for at least part of my quest, coming and going as their stories and mine variously overlapped and parted, sometimes to come back together later on. I hadn't met Kehri before. Or Quenne. As for Lori,

Spoiler (click to reveal)

I'd taken her back to Elowen's Grove in previous adventures, but I waited too long to visit the Plague Weald this campaign, and so I managed to drop her off safely with family in West Watch.

Whiskers is cute. Wirt is funny. Pentimeny is so excitable that she brings a bit of levity in otherwise dire straits. Regarding Captain Softwind,

or just Softwind to those who have earned the Status From the Brink, I found myself looking for him in the lead up to my showdown with the Magi. But I'd found the Acropolis Map after parting ways with my old captain and only realized after winning and backtracking a bit, that the map skipped me ahead from where I'd have met him one last time. And so, after bringing down the Magi, playing out my chosen Epilogue [I have questions! Soooo many questions. What were the Fey Courts thinking!?!], well, I backtracked and read through the Softwind's final arc. I'm glad that I did. He's my favorite NPC in the game (so far).

As a Savior of the Greenflame Forest (yep, once again, I played in Explore mode, crossed the 40-day threshold, and still managed a completely epic score), I'm going to have to take a break from adventuring for a bit. I've got posts to type up, session reports to write, prototypes to playtest, rulebooks to write, and even additional job opportunities to apply for (fingers-crossed). This is also why rather than reset for Campaign #7 and follow Softwind's story arc properly

Spoiler (click to reveal)

I elected to backtrack to read the end.

The Greenflame gets to go away for a bit, but it will never be too far away from my table.

Also, I have mat updates to share! Wet Ones are wonderful!

Shiny! Clean! And almost brand new! Well, almost the ding on the Stormcaller Role Mat isn't really fixable. I'll just have to be careful and continue using a Backpack to track my current hp/energy.

The Battle Mat really surprised me though. Prior to the Wet Ones wipe down, it was really started to show the wear, but now, it's clean and shiny, and very white.

I'm happy and as I close the book on Campaign #6, I find myself thinking about Campaign #7. I've loved every minute of HEXplore It: The Forests of Adrimon, with and without the HEXplore It: The Forests of Adrimon – Fall of the Ancients. There's still plenty more to see, find, and experience. And I'm grateful for that. I chose the right game to start on. The others in the HEXplore It universe aren't in the budget right now, but gosh am I looking forward to the day that they are. Friday on Friday- Campaign #6's End | Herald's Call (7)
