So why didn't anyone tell me Final Fantasy Tatics A2 was coming out this month?

Either I have been under a rock, or advertising for this game has been nonexistent. At the end of June Final Fantasy Tactics A2 comes out for the DS. This appears to be the sequel to the first Tactics Advance game. I don't know about anyone else, but I really enjoyed the last game and played it a lot. Looking forward to this one.

Yeah. I loved Tactics for PSX/PSP and GBA. I first found out two days ago on gamespot.

You should have asked, ShadX. I've known for months and am looking forward to a similar experience to the first FFTA. I never did finish 100% of the extra missions, but that's only because I didn't want to go through a long chain of events to obtain two or three random items that really weren't worth the trouble. I wonder if there are any unlockables/secrets if you insert the original game into the GBA slot. That'd be neat...but I think I've only seen SEGA do that with Feel The Magic XY/XX in the EARLY days of the DS(back when Nintendo thought that the thumb slider was a good input mechanism...remember that thing, guyz!?) Square Enix is sucking all of my munnies away with FINAL FANTASY IV (3D DS REMAKE!!!) COMING IN JULY!!! Then in September Dragon Quest IV (3D DS REAMAKE!!!!) and Sega's Sonic Chronicles: Dark Brotherhood RPG. Oh, and Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon is also coming out for Wii in July.
Oh, and Falcon24: THE GAME comes out on Wii later this year!

Ugh. I want to play this because FFT is one of my favorite games of all time. Unfortunately, I hated FFTA. Laws are the stupidest thing ever and really made the game not fun. It was bearable when there was only one thing you couldnt do, I started to get frustrated with two laws, but THREE!? I couldnt take it. (Ok, in this battle I cant use magic, use weapons, or move... great.)
I think I read that the laws (which are definitely back,) are going to be a little different this time though. From my understanding, your clan will get bonuses, like strength +10 or whatever, and if you break a law your bonuses get taken away instead of going to jail or whatever happened in the first one. If thats the case then I will probably pick this one up. If not... Ill probably pick it up and be disappointed.

According to wikipedia:
Final Fantasy Tactics A2 is compatible with its predecessor, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. If the latter game is inserted into Slot 2 of the Nintendo DS/Lite upon starting a new game of the former, certain gameplay advantages can be gained, such as the automatic acquisition of certain abilities.

Having Tactics Advance only gives you some item or ability (I forgot which) earlier than you normally would. It isn't a worthwhile bonus.

I didn't really care for FFTA, personally. I didn't like:
-The race system. It cut down the customization of the original, and promoted redundant skills.-The way skills were distributed... the classes didn't specialize as much as the classes in the original did.-The stat growth system. I liked the "so-subtle it's almost irrelevant" stat growth system of FFT. It made character raising easier, and it also prevented you from ever totally ruining a character.-Didn't care for the ability system, but I can see why they did it. I preferred the JP system, though.-Turf wars.-Laws. I think it was a good idea in theory... forcing adaptive strategy and all. But it was implemented poorly.-The one-of-a-kind item based missions.-The enemy level system. "Your top level+whatever" is infinitely superior to "Your party's average level." The game punishes you for keeping characters around for later by making things horribly easy.-The inability to name (and manually recruit, really) units.
That said, I will still likely buy this game the day it comes out. I'm sure it'll be fun while I play it, even if it doesn't match the original FFT (or TO, actually).

Yay! That's awesome. The game looks great except that the judges are returning. ><I am so excited that there are some other dudes that have played the games besides me for once. I liked how in War of the Lions they included a reference to Onion Knights as a class, but I hope they make the Onion equipment better/ easier to get in this game, if it even exists....

I did like the laws... until they got totally retarded with "You can't damage this race" laws. Those laws made the game really annoying, because you'd end up being stuck in a battle you can't possibly win. It was stupid.
There’s no point if it stops being fun.

My biggest complaints with Tactics Advance were the lack of the original Tactics' CT meter. That alone gave took so much of the strategy out of Advance.
I also didn't like that you couldn't pay for low-level recruits that you could name and build from the ground up. I loved naming my characters in the original Tactics, probably because I had so much control over their abilities.
I hated how you had to do so much stuff early on in the game if you wanted to get some of the best abilities a little later on.
That being said, gotta' start a new file so I can take advantage of the compatibility features.

Nintendo just sold another DS.
Seriously I'd buy a DS for this game. I mean a DS is a good investment anyway, but I'd honestly say FFTA is my favorite game. May not have been the best game, but it was certainly my favorite. I'm pumped now.

Actually that's GOOD news.
I'm tired of the (icecream) nintendo tries to pull.
(Get X game for extra content)
Minor stuff is okay, extra content pisses me of.

Also I lost my copy of FFTA

The only way I'll consider buying it is if the story doesn't make me physically ill with how bad it is (like the last one did).
Most my other complaints have been addressed by others. The only thing I'll add is I have an incredible dislike of the removal of charging attacks.

From what I hear, the story is even worse than the last one, Kai. Personally, I'm a little nervous, since Yasumi Matsuno isn't working on the game this time. I wonder what kind of implications it will have the for the Ivalice storyline.
That said, I'm buying it first day.

Yeah, the biggest complaint so far seems to be the poor story. They also mention the camera, but that wasn't too big of an issue for me in the last game.

Aw crud, thanks a lot guys. Now I'm hearing "poor story" and am seriously thinking about not getting it now.
Ah well, I wasn't that excited about it anyway. If I was, such news wouldn't bother me.
The fact is, the first Tactics Advance kinda disappointed me on several levels. Mostly, it just wasn't enough like Tactics. The story didn't intrigue me, and I wasn't fond of the race/class system or the gang-war situations that would pop up and distract me from whatever I'm doing. I especially despise learning skills from equipment. The only Swordbreaker I ever found was owned by an enemy, and I couldn't steal it because you learn Steal Weapon from the Swordbreaker. Talk about driving me nuts.
Oddly, though, the law system never really bothered me. In fact, it was probably one of my favorite parts of the game. =/

But do you really play Tactics Advance for the story? I don't think the graphics and camera angle really lend themselves to great storytelling in the first place.
As for the stealing nonsense, I'm currently playing through a new file of Advance and doing the ridiculous process of sending units out on recruiting missions to raise my clan's negotiation stat to 30 so I can get the Cinqueda early enough to get the best abilities.
This is the one thing I've hated in both the FFT games so far. I really think it's bad design that only a very niche group can appreciate. :?

Back on topic:
I had fun with the original but it was not completely "my thing". It took way too long to get anything done for my taste; it's only saving grace for me is that it was portable and the awesome quick save option. I did have fun turning my entire opponents army into frogs and then using the abilities that turned them into stone; it was incredibly funny to me seeing an entire field of stone frogs at the end of a match but that may just be me. :p

The original Tactics Ogre (Let Us Cling Together) has the same graphics style and isometric camera angle, and it's got a better story than the original FFT and most other RPGs. The graphics are sort of irrelevant.

I was turned off by Tactics Ogre when I tried to play that Gameboy one. But if the original has a better story than even FFT, I'll definitely look into it again.

The original TO uses an individual turn system like the FFT games, so you may enjoy it more than the GBA game. As for it having a better story... I wouldn't necessarily take my word for it, because there's generally a schism among fans of the two games over which has a better story. But I will say that the game keeps up its political intrigue filled plot throughout almost the entirety of the game (unlike FFT, which breaks away from it in the main plot about halfway through), and it also has 3 story branches that drastically alter the path the game takes.

The political intrigue of it was what made me love FFT in the first place.
And it doesn't quiiite drop it, it just shows the maneuvers taken by a different faction of people (The Glabados Church) to reach their goals (which technically is reviving St. Ajora, but it's still intrigue. <_< )And if it can beat the Delita/Ovelia ending and the slight overture about her being still alive at the end, or the whole subplot of Ramza's brother (can't remember his name atm) killing his own father, I'm instantly in love.

the gameboy tactics ogre was crap, The original SNES viersion is really good tho. FFTA is crap. I loved FFT, but FFTA deviated from the adult universe that FFT created. I remember a Game Informer reviewer ranting like: ZOMG TIS IS GREETEST GAEM EVAR! TEH STORY IS LEIK, TAH BEST EVAR!!! I LOVE LAWHZ!!! I am off to look for the exact article in my massive collection of gaming magazines... (I am suprised that no one has mentioned that TO and FFT were developed by the same company)

I've noticed lately that SquareEnix is really slaking off on advertising their games. Seriously, their were absolutely no advertisements for The World Ends With You until the game actually came out. Even then, it was only on small banner ads on select gaming websites. I imagine they are taking the same approach with FFTA2, which sucks because most of the target audience won't even know that it is out until they see it in the store some day.

Well, the main basis for comparing them, really, is that the same person (Yasumi Matsuno) was behind them. "Same company" is a little off, though. FFT was made before Square bought Quest (who was behind Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre) in 2002, though it did have much of the TO team behind it, particularly the creative portion (Yasumi Matsuno, Akihiko Yoshida, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Masaharu Iwata, among others).

I just read through the article on Wikipedia.Hopefully there will actually be a character behind these sprites. That's what I did like about the story of FFTA, there was CHARACTER there. I cared about Marche just liked I cared about Ritz and Mewt and Doned. At the moment, I couldn't give less of a (swell guy) about Luso than I already do.
